 Related Co-Location

01. What is Co-Location?
Co-Location is a service that allows companies to lease space inside a data center's state-of-the-art facility to install their server equipment. At KIDC, the co-located servers are connected via Ethernet, through KIDC's core router, directly to the Internet backbone. KIDC's Co-Location service allows servers to perform at a speed that is up to 28 times faster than T1 connections, at one third of the cost. It's not easy to find a Co-Location facility that offers a comparable performance/reliability mix to KIDC's facility. We operate one of the newest, most desirable Co-Location sites in Korea. Not only does our fiber-based backbone connection provide your server with unrivaled throughput performance, but also, our redundant core routers, redundant Ethernet paths and on-site uninterrupted power plant ensure your server's accessibility 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
02. Why should I co-locate instead of getting my own connection?
The main reason to opt for Co-Location is cost. It is very expensive to maintain your own connection. For instance, a dedicated 28.8Kbps modem would cost approximately $125.00 a month to leave it connected 24 hours a day, seven days a week from your ISP. The phone line, which the modem would run over, costs at least $30.00 a month. This $155.00 would be incurred monthly as direct costs for a mere 28.8Kbps connection. There will be additional charges of about $300.00 to install extra phone lines. If there were any kind of appreciable traffic to your server (web hits, incoming or outgoing e-mail, etc.), an ISDN would be the next logical step. A single channel dedicated ISDN (64Kbps, about twice the speed of the modem) would cost approximately $60.00 a month from your local Telco (assuming that you are located in an area that supports the technology). The full-time connection to your ISP would be approximately $300.00 a month. That's $360.00 a month, and that is only for 64Kbps. Installation will be about $250.00, and you will need some networking equipment which will cost another $200.00 minimum. (Still Quite Slow!) Your own T-1? This would be very expensive... Thousand of dollars per month!! Already, the cost alone is somewhat of a prohibiting factor. And, the bandwidth would still be quite limited. Of course, what about all of the support costs which you will have to absorb to keep the connection active full-time? By opting to co-locate with KIDC, you pay one flat rate for connectivity and space. And all the other benefits come with it.
03. Why is Internet outsourcing a key to success?
In order to ensure the quality, reliability, availability and redundancy of Internet operations, corporate IT departments must make substantial investments in network infrastructure as well as in the physical environment necessary for effective operation of network. In addition, such systems have to be monitored and managed 24x7 by technical experts. This not only requires a huge initial investment but also a substantial amount of company resources have to be allocated to manage the system properly. KIDC sees an opportunity to provide a combination of Internet outsourcing, collaborative systems management and Web technology services that will enable reliable performance of mission-critical Internet operations.

Yes. Whether you place an order by telephone or via online by filling out our order form please be sure to specify whether you are requesting a transfer or a new domain. You should keep the service at the present site while waiting for InterNIC or KRNIC to complete the transfer process. We will provide you with a temporary IP address so you can mirror the site on our server. All e-mail and Web pages will still be accessed from the current site. When InterNIC or KRNIC announces the completion of the transfer there is a 72-hour propagation period where visitors could go to either site. At the end of the 72 hours you should contact the previous host to have them delete the old domain from their records and update their DNS record. If you use this same provider for your Internet access you will not be able to access your domain site at KIDC until they update their DNS.
04. How long does it take before my domain name is active?
